How to get started:
Many experts agree that is necessary to follow a basic skincare
routine to maintain and enhance your beauty and youthfulness. Such a typical skincare program normally includes a cleanser, exfoliator, toner, moisturizer, and lets not
forget the all important sunscreen!
To be most beneficial, experts recommend to adhere to this
routine twice a day. If you have very
sensitive or dry skin, it might be more beneficial to only cleanse your face
once a day and moisturize more often to avoid irritation. Additionally, once a
day exfoliation might be too much for sensitive skin and could lead to chronic
irritation. Once a week is normally sufficient. A good sun
block is essential and needs to be applied at least once a day after your
moisturizer.
Find out your skin type:
Oily skin & Acne:
Most people will suffer from blemishes and oily skin at some time during
their teenage and adult years. Contrary to popular belief, acne is not caused by
your diet, stress, or surface dirt and oil. "Clogged pores" that cause acne
actually originate within hair follicles below the skin's surface. Hormones,
genetic factors and certain drugs can trigger acne flare-ups.
What do you see?
-
Skin imperfections (open and closed comedones)
-
Oily, shiny, thickened skin
-
Dull complexion and rough skin

Sensitive & Intolerant Skin:
Sensitive skin can be defined as
an abnormal skin response to various physical or chemical factors. Intolerant
skin is usually hereditary or a constitutional sensitivity resulting from skin
conditions such as rosacea and atopy. Environmental stress, fragrances,
preservatives and allergies to certain topicals frequently aggravate
intolerant skin.
What do you see?
-
Delicate, fairly clear, highly sensitive skin that reacts to everything
-
Skin that pulls, stings or burns
-
Signs of dehydration
-
Red spots or patches
-
Puffiness, signs or irritation

Prematurely Aged
Skin:
Prematurely aged skin suffers from decreased cellular turnover, photo-damage and
a loss of collagen and elastin. When dead skin cells do not shed rapidly,
it results in a dry, dull, wrinkled, uneven complexion.
What do you see?
-
Fine lines and wrinkles
-
Deep tight grooves
-
Rough skin texture
-
Dull complexion
-
Brown spots
-
Uneven skin tone

Dry to Severely Dry Skin:
Dry skin can be caused by a lack of natural
moisturizers within the skin or by damage to the protective film that prevents
moisture loss. Severely dry skin, usually caused by an existing skin condition
triggered or aggravated by external factors, is most often recognized by
scaling, itching, flaking and burning.
What do you see?
-
Signs of dehydration
-
Dry skin lacking suppleness and elasticity
-
Dry patches
-
Rough cracked skin that is peeling in spots

Using advanced skin care
treatments:
For women (and man) over thirty, the basic skin care routine
might not be effective enough. That's when you would add one or two advanced
skin care treatments with scientifically proven ingredients like retinol,
ascorbic acid, hydroquinone or salicylic acid
The effectiveness of such treatments depend on how and when they
are applied and how many percent of the active ingredient the product actually
contains. It is most beneficial to apply your skin care products on a clean,
warm face that is still slightly moist. When you wash your face or take your
make up off, avoid any excessive rubbing and only pat your face slightly dry.
Wait until the product is completely absorbed by your skin before you apply the
next product.
